Perhaps a bit idle and certainly happy-go-lucky, Rip Van Winkle often took too long walks with his dog to get away from his wife’s pestering. On one such walk he met some mysterious Dutchmen playing nine-pins, he partakes of some of their liquor, and then falls asleep for twenty years - completely missing the American Revolutionary war and other life events.
