On December 5th Krampus heads out into the world with St Nicholas. St Nicholas rewards the good children with treats hidden in their shoes to be found when they wake in the morning. Bad children would be “rewarded” by Krampus with coal, birch sticks (used for spanking), and often lingering nightmares.
